Presentation Skills:
How to Get Your Point Across

On February 24, 2009 the ICBE presented a lecture by Susan Murphy on presentation skills. This timely event was well attended.

Volunteers from the audience helped Susan illustrate her points, and we watched them improve as she corrected problems with their delivery. Learning skills such as making eye contact is hard work, but nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Susan began by asking the audience what they wanted to cover.
Susan Murphy eye contact
One important skill: Make eye contact with an individual audience member, reach a natural pause in the delivery, and shift to another member. Our volunteers initially quickly scanned the audience instead of making eye contact. Susan helped them break the habit.
