GENZINGER STRING QUARTET

On April 7, 2009 the ICBE presented a chamber music performance by the Genzinger String Quartet as part of its series of community events. The group, whose members include Edgewater residents and ICBE members Evan Johnson and Loretta O'Sullivan, perform on period instruments.

About the Genzinger String Quartet

Loretta O'Sullivan Peggy Spencer Evan Johnson Mark Rike

The Genzinger String Quartet was recently formed by four distinguished period instrument performers to focus on the classical repertoire, especially Haydn and Mozart. Evan Johnson gained international acclaim with his recording of the Biber Mystery Sonatas, Loretta O'Sullivan is one of this country's leading baroque/classical cellists, Peggy Spencer was concertmaster of the New England Bach Festival for two decades under Blanche Honegger Moyse, and Mark Rike was a member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra before becoming a period instrument specialist.

Marianne von Genzinger was a close friend of Haydn's in Vienna. A fine amateur pianist, she inspired some of his most soulful works. Haydn was fascinated by the blend of musical skill and cultured intelligence in her warm and supportive personality. To us she represents music-making at its best.
